| Respiratory Therapy became a self regulated
health profession with the proclamation of the
Respiratory Therapists Act. The Nova Scotia
College of Respiratory Therapists regulates the
practice of Respiratory Therapy by setting
standards for entry to practice, establishing
standards of practice, insuring continued
competency of licensed members and dealing with
professional conduct issues. Through the
professional conduct process the NSCRT seeks to
inhibit professional misconduct, conduct
unbecoming a respiratory therapist, incompetence
and incapacity by investigating and processing
complaints against a member. It does this so as
to ”serve and protect the public interest;
preserve the integrity of the profession and
maintain public confidence in the ability of the
profession to regulate itself”. Respiratory
