      The NSCRT Continuing Education Credits (CEC) document was developed by the NSCRT Board as a continuing education guide for members and was ratified by members at a Special Meeting on March 1, 2008. The CEC document describes the process and rationale for CECs and includes the appropriate documentation forms for members to download and complete. Please contact the registrar@NSCRT.com for further information or if you have questions, comments or ideas.

The Lung Association of Nova Scotia has officially invited Respiratory Therapy to present our own educational stream at the ARRC this year. There are also pediatric, adult and critical care educational streams being presented. Norma Frank has agreed to be the chairperson for the event and has secured the following preliminary speakers: Dr M Vallis--Motivational Enhancement Kelly Cormier-- Respiratory Issues for patients with Progressive neuromuscular diseases Carrie Young-Edwards--Sleep Studies and new OSA Guide Lines Noel Pendergast--Smoking Cessation -are we ready to counsel Kathy Spurr-- Computerized Ventilator waveforms an educational tool Dr K Sheilds--Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Please contact Norma Frank if you would like to volunteer and please forward ideas for speakers/educational sessions directly to Norma! Respiratory Therapy

RT's with a 3-year diploma in Respiratory Therapy from The Michener Institute or equivalent are eligible for a distance education course for a Master of Applied Science (Respiratory Therapy) from Charles Stuart University in association with The Michener Institute.

Entry requirements are a 3-year diploma in Respiratory Therapy and 3 years work experience in the respiratory field. For further information, fees and course schedules, contact

Certificate & Advanced Diploma: COPD Educator

Become a COPD Educator and help patients to live better, longer lives by teaching them how to manage their disease.

STUDENTS WILL LEARN

  • clinical, medical and rehabilitation science of the COPD patient
  • Patient education and communication skills
  • epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors and relationship among the diseases that comprise COPD
  • to assist patients in controlling symptoms, anxiety and exacerbations and help them get on with living a fuller life

PROGRAM FORMAT
The COPD Educator Certificate Program can be completed in as little as six months. It is offered through distance education supported by four days of hands-on workshops which integrate theory with practice. Workshops are offered periodically at locations across the country. When you graduate you will receive The Michener Institute's Certificate of Achievement
